Gulf Shores vacation photography by Shelley B Photography — a two-photographer team with a Hasselblad medium format camera that comes directly to your rental. Your trip, beautifully preserved.
Every Gulf Shores vacation feels vivid while it's happening. The kids running into the waves. Everyone together in a way that only happens a few times a year. The sunset turning everything gold. You keep thinking you should get a photo, and then the moment passes, and then the week is over.
A year later, you're scrolling through your camera roll and you find a handful of blurry, overexposed phone photos and a video of someone's feet in the sand. The trip was incredible. The photos don't show it.
This is exactly what we're here for.
I'm Shelley, and along with Blaine, we specialize in vacation photography along the Alabama Gulf Coast. Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Fort Morgan, Perdido Key — we photograph families across the entire coastline, coming directly to their vacation rental, during golden hour, with our Hasselblad medium format camera. We turn the best week of your family's year into images that actually look the way it felt.
When families think about "getting photos done," they often picture a portrait studio — a controlled environment with artificial lighting, neutral backgrounds, and a formal session that feels separate from real life.
Vacation photography is almost the opposite. The setting is real and deeply personal to your family. The backdrop is the Gulf of Mexico — one of the most beautiful natural environments in the country. The kids are already happy and sun-kissed and in their element. The whole family is together in a way that doesn't happen often enough.
The job of a good vacation photographer isn't to impose a studio experience onto this setting — it's to capture what's already there. The beauty of the place. The ease of vacation mode. The way your family actually feels when they're all together in a place they love.
That's what we do. We come to your beach, at the best possible time of day, with professional equipment, and we capture your family the way they actually are on vacation — relaxed, happy, and together.
Gulf Shores, Alabama has everything you'd want in a vacation photography location:
The light. Golden hour on the Gulf Coast is extraordinary — warm, directional, deeply flattering. The low angle of the setting sun creates light that makes everyone look beautiful without any effort. We schedule almost all of our sessions during this window.
The water. The Gulf of Mexico off the Alabama coast is that iconic turquoise-to-emerald color that photographers travel from everywhere to capture. At 100 megapixels on the Hasselblad, that water color is vivid and rich in your images in a way that standard cameras can't match.
The scale. The Gulf Shores beach has a grandeur to it — wide open, horizon stretching in both directions, enormous sky above. Our panoramic images capture that scale beautifully, creating images that feel monumental when printed large.
The variety. Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Fort Morgan, and Perdido Key each have their own character, and we know all of them. Depending on where you're staying, we'll find the perfect stretch of beach for your session.
Step one: reach out. Tell us your vacation dates, where you're staying, and a little about your family. We'll check our availability and get back to you quickly.
Step two: we confirm and plan. We'll confirm your session date and time — almost always golden hour, about an hour before sunset. We'll send outfit tips and anything else you need to know.
Step three: we come to you. On the day of your session, we drive to your vacation rental. You don't figure out parking or logistics. We show up at your door.
Step four: a beautiful evening. We spend 60-90 minutes on the beach together. Shelley handles posed portraits. Blaine captures candid moments. We shoot on a Hasselblad medium format camera at 100 megapixels.
Step five: your gallery arrives. Within a few weeks, you receive a gallery of fully edited images — standard portrait formats and wide panoramics — ready to download, share, and print.
Families who book a session with us consistently tell us afterward that it was the best part of the trip. Not just a nice add-on — genuinely the most meaningful thing they did all week.
That makes sense to us. A vacation rental, restaurant meals, activities — these things are consumed during the trip and then they're gone. A professional photo session creates something that lasts indefinitely. The images go on your walls, into your family's photo books, into the visual record of your family's story.
Twenty years from now, the Gulf Shores vacation your family took this summer will live most vividly in the photographs from that golden hour session on the beach.
