Most families spend months planning a Gulf Coast vacation — the rental, the activities, the packing lists — and then realize on day two that they don't have a single good photo of everyone together. The vacation is happening, the light is beautiful, and there's no record of any of it beyond blurry phone shots taken at noon.
That's where we come in. We're Shelley B Photography, and we photograph families during their Destin vacations — casually, naturally, in the incredible Emerald Coast light that makes this part of Florida one of the most beautiful places in the country to be photographed.
It's not a production. It shouldn't feel like one. You get everyone in their coordinated beach outfits, we show up at your location as the sun starts to lower, and we spend about an hour working through a mix of formal group portraits and natural, candid moments. The kids get to run around. The adults get to actually enjoy the session instead of white-knuckling through it.
Because we schedule exclusively around golden hour — the 45–60 minutes before sunset — the light does most of the heavy lifting. Everyone looks better in golden hour light. The water looks more dramatic. The sand glows. It's the kind of natural beauty that makes even a reluctant family photo person walk away saying "okay, that was actually worth it."
One of the most common things we hear from families is that they didn't want the hassle of loading everyone up and driving somewhere for photos. We get it — especially with young kids or elderly grandparents in the mix, the logistics of getting everyone somewhere can feel like more trouble than it's worth.
We come to you. Beach house in Crystal Beach, condo on Scenic Gulf Drive, resort on Okaloosa Island, rental in Miramar Beach — we'll be at your location when golden hour starts. The session begins where your family is most comfortable.
Both Shelley and Blaine photograph every session together. That means while one of us is managing the formal shots, the other is capturing the real moments that happen in between — the kids goofing off, the candid expressions, the behind-the-scenes stuff that ends up being people's absolute favorites.
For vacation photography especially, those candid moments matter. You didn't come to Destin to stand stiffly in a pose. You came to be with your family. We want to capture what that actually looks like.
We shoot with a Hasselblad medium format camera at 100 megapixels. Your vacation gallery will be delivered as full-resolution files that you can print at any size — from small prints to large wall canvases — without losing any quality. These aren't "good enough for Instagram" files. They're the kind of images you frame.
