Destin is one of those places that earns its nickname — the Emerald Coast. The water here has a clarity and color that genuinely surprises people the first time they see it. The sugar-white quartz sand, the turquoise water, the way the light goes golden and warm right before sunset — it's some of the most beautiful natural photography light anywhere in the country.
We're Shelley B Photography, and we love photographing families along this stretch of Florida Gulf Coast. Whether you're here for a week with your immediate family or gathering the whole extended crew for a reunion, we'd love to be the ones behind the camera.
We shoot with a Hasselblad medium format camera system at 100 megapixels. That means your images look extraordinary at any print size — from small framed prints to large canvases that fill a wall. The resolution, color depth, and tonal quality of medium format photography is in a different category than standard cameras, and it shows in the final product.
Both Shelley and Blaine photograph every session together. One of us directs and manages the formal group portraits. The other is capturing the real moments — the kids running toward the water, the grandparents laughing, the toddler who decided midway through that she was done cooperating. You get posed portraits and the candid ones, simultaneously.
We book one family per sunset. No back-to-back sessions, no rushed 30-minute slots. The entire golden hour window belongs to your family.

Golden hour on the Emerald Coast is genuinely something special. The combination of white sand and clear water creates a natural reflectivity that fills in shadows from below while the warm sunset light comes in from above. The result is a soft, flattering, luminous quality of light that's very hard to replicate anywhere else.
